Lagundo in the heart of South Tyrol

On the sunny side of the spa town of Merano

Lagundo, a garden village nestled at the foot of the Texel Group, is renowned for its alpine-Mediterranean climate and its wonderfully blooming flower gardens and fragrant orchards, which have shaped the entire village image for many years. When it begins to bloom in early March, a magnificent delicate pink carpet of blossoms stretches through the entire village.

The two oversized wooden chairs at the High Cross in Lagundo form a special viewing platform for this spectacle. From here, the view over the entire Merano region is particularly impressive. A place to pause and enjoy the moment.

Lagundo is also characterised by rural traditions and customs, tranquillity and serenity, cultural highlights and typical South Tyrolean events: in the six districts of Lagundo, you can discover all this and much more. These districts lie on the northern edge of the Merano basin and on the southern slope of the Texel Group Nature Park. Thanks to this special location, Lagundo enjoys sunshine throughout the day. The sunny front garden of Merano, so to speak!

Just a few minutes' walk from the village centre is our Hotel Maria Theresia, the ideal starting point for discovering the special features of the charming village and its magnificent surroundings.

Another special feature of the garden village of Lagundo is its proximity to the vibrant spa town of Merano, which can be reached quickly and easily by public transport. A highlight not to be missed during your South Tyrol holiday is certainly a visit to the Botanical Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle. Over an area of 12 hectares, the exotic garden landscape features a natural amphitheatre with a wide variety of flora and fauna from around the world.

Ideal for a leisurely stroll and discovering the diverse nature.

The climate

Thanks to its unique Alpine-Mediterranean climate, the garden village of Lagundo is the perfect holiday destination at any time of year. Nestled in a sheltered valley, the holiday resort near Merano is always a few degrees warmer than the surrounding towns, and you can look forward to more than 300 days of sunshine a year, as well as an unforgettable holiday in South Tyrol, surrounded by beautiful vineyards and orchards.

Walking and Hiking

Whether it's a leisurely stroll on breathtaking panoramic paths, challenging hikes on the Merano High Trail or high-alpine circular walks in a unique mountain setting, Lagundo is the ideal starting point for all kinds of hikes. With up to 3000 metres of altitude and more than 160 kilometres of hiking trails, the town offers the perfect challenge for every active holidaymaker. Experience the fascinating South Tyrolean mountain world with like-minded people: every Tuesday, host Wolfgang invites you on a hike, and every Thursday you set off by bus for a little further afield. Sometimes for asparagus dining in the Val Venosta, sometimes to Verona and the flower market or olive production on Lake Garda, sometimes for an alpine snack in the Ultental Valley.

Cycling

For those looking to explore the diverse landscape of sunny Merano Country by bike during an active holiday, there are plenty of options. Whether it’s with a city bike, e-bike or racing bike through the fragrant orchards and vineyards, or a mountain bike over more challenging alpine and forest trails: around Lagundo, there is the perfect challenge for every difficulty level. Particularly recommended is the ride along the ancient Roman imperial road, the "Via Claudia Augusta". A section of this cycle path runs from the Resia Pass to Lagundo near Merano and continues south, always following the course of the Adige River. A true paradise for nature lovers and valley cyclists.

Guided bike tours and mountain bike skills training sessions with MTB school leader Christoph Frei and his professional guide team are also held daily.

At the bike rental in Lagundo (Via Stenizer 14), you can obtain useful information about all organised tours, rent mountain bikes, e-bikes and more for your cycling trip, and enjoy repair services.
