The Extra of sights
The Botanical Gardens of Schloss Trauttmansdorff
The magnificent gardens of Schloss Trauttmansdorff are renowned for their unique plant diversity. Here, you will find typical South Tyrolian landscapes, as well as exotic theme gardens like the Japanese Garden or the Cactus and Succulent Hill. The mild climate in the spa town of Merano was already enjoyed by Empress Sissi. A world of experiences in full bloom, truly wonderful!
The Terme Merano: Sauna Landscape and Wellness Oasis
Since its opening in 2005, the Terme Merano has seamlessly integrated into the cityscape of Merano as an elegant focal point. This modern glass complex houses an extensive health and wellness centre, featuring a total of 25 indoor and outdoor pools, various saunas, soothing steam baths, and a spacious vitality and spa area. The 52,000 m² spa park, Meranos green lung, invites visitors to linger and relax in style.
The in-house Medical Centre focuses on the health of visitors. In addition to special thermal treatments with inhalations, services such as physiotherapy are also available. The fitness offering at the Terme Merano is equally diverse. The qualified training team creates tailored exercise programmes for visitors, aimed at weight loss, muscle building, or general health improvement. The bistro café on the spa square invites guests to enjoy a fine cappuccino or a refreshing aperitif. Throughout the summer, various concerts take place on the Piazza, ranging from classical to jazz.
The hub of South Tyrol’s spa town: the arcades of Merano
The historic arcades in the centre of Merano, one of the oldest and best-preserved alleys in the city, has always exuded a particularly cosy atmosphere and invites visitors on a South Tyrolean cultural holiday to linger and stroll. Especially since it was designated a pedestrian zone a few years ago, the arcades really comes into its own with its incomparable flair. In this always bustling alley, the lights of elegant shop windows and fine boutiques sparkle alongside old parlours and arched doorways, a contrast of antique and modern that makes it even more appealing.
The Knottnkino high above the Adige Valley
If you’d like to fully enjoy the magnificent panorama from the Texel Group to the Penegal, further on to the majestic Weißhorn and down into the Etschtal valley, then visit the “Knottnkino” on the porphyritic red Rotsteinkogel (1,465 m) in Verano. Take a seat in one of the 30 rustic chestnut-wood and steel armchairs and experience the natural spectacle on the plateau up close.
A day trip to the episcopal city of Bressanone
If you also want to explore the other parts of South Tyrol, a trip to the historic city of Bressanone, north of the provincial capital Bolzano, is well worth it. With its numerous attractions, such as Bressanone Cathedral with its adjacent cloister, the Hofburg (the former prince-bishops' residence), the two historic arcaded streets and the significant monasteries, Bressanone ranks alongside Merano as one of the most beautiful cities in South Tyrol. The episcopal city can be reached in about 45 minutes by car. If you want to give your vehicle a break at Hotel Maria Theresia, you can use public transport, such as buses and trains.
